DESIGNED WHILE AT IGNITE ARCHITECTS
Situated at the Pines Resource Recovery Park in Rolleston, the new Selwyn ReUse Shop has been years in the making — a 1,000m² build shaped by conservation ambitions, circular economy principles, and a genuine commitment to sustainable design.
It sits alongside the ReDiscover Education Centre, ReNourish Community Garden, and recycling drop-off zone already established at the park, rounding out a site built around one idea: waste doesn't have to be wasted.
The building itself was designed with an afterlife in mind. Glulam portal frames and LVL timber purlins are left exposed rather than hidden, chosen for how easily they could one day be taken apart and used again. An insulated triple-skin polycarbonate system brings in natural light and keeps performance high, while 44kW of solar panels power the park and rainwater harvesting keeps the native planting alive. New materials sit alongside repurposed ones throughout — the mission, quite literally, built into the walls.
